Welcome to IWETHEY!

New TWIKI generated spam
I added my name to the twiki and a couple weeks later the spam begins.

----------
Hi

I visited TWIKI.IWETHEY.ORG, and noticed that you're not listed on some search engines! I think we can offer you a service which can help you increase traffic and the number of visitors to your website.

I would like to introduce you to TrafficMagnet.com. We offer a unique technology that will submit your website to over 300,000 search engines and directories every month.

You'll be surprised by the low cost, and by how effective this website promotion method can be.

To find out more about TrafficMagnet and the cost for submitting your website to over 300,000 search engines and directories, visit www.TrafficMagnet.com.

I would love to hear from you.

Best Regards,

-----------

Interestingly enough www.trafficmagnet.com comes up 404 and whois shows me the record was updated yesterday which means that it probably hasn't had time to propagate.

I thought the twiki obfuscated email addresses?

Update - a little later the website starts to work. Interestingly enough, they have a toll free fax number in the US 1-877-520-8596. If I were in the US, I'd send them the complete 5000 page anti-spam manifesto.

I am out of the country for the duration of the Bush administration.
Please leave a message and I'll get back to you when democracy returns.

New I'm all jealous and stuff
I've been on there longer than most, and I haven't gotten any SPAM.

New TWiki doesn't obfuscate email addresses
I argue against this for numerous reasons. I've got an address I've used since the mid 1990s. Yes, it gets spammed. And yes, the spam gets reported. But I also get email from people I want to hear from.

I'd strongly suggest you get spam filtering either on your personal system or via your ISP.

New trafficmagnet.net/PDHost
They're one of the more aggressive/annoying spammers. I've tracked trafficmagnet.net as far as China, where they seem to be hosted at capitalnet.com.cn. I forget whether abuse@ bounced or not.
New rfc-ignorant
Try [link|http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/|www.rfc-ignorant.org]. You can build a command line query tool readily:
#!/bin/bash

PATH=/bin:/usr/bin
DOMAIN=$1
lynx --dump [link|http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/tools/lookup.php?domain=${DOMAIN}|http://www.rfc-igno...in=${DOMAIN}]

And the result is: [link|http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/tools/lookup.php?domain=capitalnet.com.cn|[link|http://www.rfc-ignorant.org/tools/lookup.php?domain=capitalnet.com.cn|http://www.rfc-igno...alnet.com.cn]]...appears ignorant.

New Re: TWIKI generated spam
Now you see why I wanted to be able to use handles and alternative web emails on TWiki. They can send it to my throwaway Yahoo Webmail account, and I just clean out my "Bulk" folder every once in a while.
