New Reread
It CAN'T be the Dell boxen, since when
I initiate another process on a DIFFERENT
client box, they all slow down.
New Just did the re-read...
I agree it is most likely NOT the Dell Boxes...

With Solaris... I know next to nothing about tweaking... but I can assume these same "KINDS" of mechanisms would be your best bet to look at... as they directly affect the "throughput" of the machine...

Now, as for the Memory Architecture of the SUN box... I'll say I would be in new territory... as I usually do not get to play with SPARC hardware much... and it is usually not "Setting" them up but fixing an error or recovering them to be bootable. I do have one Solaris UltraSparc with 4 Procs laying around with 2G of memory .... a Donation to the College from a liquidator... I'll poke it... see what I can look into...

I would really like to know HOW you fix this, please??!!

New Gut feel is Oracle
I'm going on the assumption there
is some type of internal latching
mechanism that is spinning or being
exhausted.

While the current timing annoys the
hell out of me, it's not that bad
overall. This is because the 1st
time I run it for real, I need to
output about 100 million records,
which means it'll be long enough for
me to get pissy. But the nightly
run only needs to about about 5
million records, and it is well within
the timing allotted.

So if I stumble across the fix, I'll
let you know. But I won't be actively
seeking it.
