(euphimism for revolution?)

It's clear that American democracy is failing. The reasons hardly matter any more (from my own viewpoint, the slide started in April 1865). What needs to be done to revitalize the country? The only solution I can see is for the states to declare some kind of independence from the national government. Jefferson knew how dangerous a huge, centralized government was to the American experiment. Centralization leads inevitably to tyranny, as the ambitious learn to manipulate the power of government, manipulation made possible by the concentrated nature of authority. Of course this may happen on the state and even on the local level - but it's much harder to hide and only dangerous within that state. Real tyranny needs lots of bodies.
