New Food safe cleaning?
I've got a meat slicer. This thing scares the s*** out of me as I pass my fingers way too close. And I can't just drop the whole thing in a sink and scrub it out. What's the best/safest way to clean this thing?

I currently use vinegar. I figure that will kill anything that I care about and simultaneously evaporate when done. Is there anything better than that?
New Re: Food safe cleaning?
I use "Heavy-Duty Citrus Degreaser" by Zep. Other good Citrus Cleaners should also
work - and a vinegar rinse after wouldn't hurt.
New Big rotating deli type?
Close it all the way so the blade is even with the tray. Scrub any chunks off with steel wool or a nylon scrubber.

Soak a clean rag in 1:4 bleach/water. Fold the rag neatly, hold it with tongs up to the seam between blade and tray and turn it on.

I never used the tongs. There's a risk that if there's a nick in the blade it grabs the rag and yanks it. But I sharpened it at least once a week, so I knew it was good.

Straight bleach is cheap and food safe, but makes the kitchen smell like a hospital.
