Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Hey, CRC!
A parcel addressed to you has reached Helsinki. Although the contents are duty-free according to international trade conventions, you will likely be dinged for “taxes” on your end. US Customs does the same thing with bullshit “user fees.”

tariff-ically,
New Thanks for the heads-up!
Spurred by this I opened my trusty Posti phone app, and lo and behold, I do indeed have an arrival notice (which my even arrive through the mail slot in our front door any day now). Following the instructions therein, I went to tulli.fi and filled out diverse assurances to the effect that the parcel whose impending arrival I eagerly await is both a) worth a mere pittance and b) not acquired in any remotely commercial fashion, which prompted the (web servers of the) customs authority of this august republic to release said parcel for final delivery without my having to pay even a sliver of VAT.

Remains only to be seen how fast (or not) this final leg of the journey will be. (I'm guessing not so fast: I'd had a preliminary notice, that a parcel from you was about to arrive... Six weeks ago.)

New “a mere pittance?”
Nay, a pearl of great price!

The preliminary notice, BTW, was almost certainly generated by my first attempt to ship the thing, in which I entered the data online but—having failed to print out the declaration in triplicate, and then attempting to supplement it with a pen-and-paper—somehow choked the system at the post office. The second, successful attempt commenced here in California nine days ago. According to the usps.com tracking system (LZ313122200US), the parcel cleared customs on your end today.

cordially,
New In monetary terms only, of course!
Yeah, it cleared immediately after I filled in that form.

I printed out the confirmation, not in triplicate, but still. Am planning to take it with me to the post office to shove in their faces when they (almost inevitably) claim it's not properly cleared or something.

If I'm trying to do something that stupid, strong typing is the least of my problems.
