New Serious question: If there's a new strain, is it still COVID "19"?

New Don't ask me
I'm not a doctor, although I Google stuff while wearing my N95 mask...

Satan (impatiently) to Newcomer: The trouble with you Chicago people is, that you think you are the best people down here; whereas you are merely the most numerous.
- - - Mark Twain, "Pudd'nhead Wilson's New Calendar" 1897
New Do you want to call it COVID "21"? :)
Viruses evolve all the time. And it's the evolution in the directions that make them tougher, become more dominant and get noticed. You have cut off their replication to stop the process.

Given how badly we're slowing down the replication, at some point you probably could call it Covid something else.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New Probably, yes? "Strain" =/= "species". At most, like, "Covid-19(-B-20)", "...(-C-21)", etc?
