Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Ahhh... the REAL price of
Windows... is the Hook that is already in your mouth... when they YANK it.

For WTS, you gotta get W2K server License, plus W2K Client Access Licenses, plus W2K TSE server License, plus W2K TSE Client Access Licenses. Both Server Licenses must be for the same kind (Server-Server, Advanced Server-Advanced Server, etc....) Both QTY of CALs must match, also.

Best part is a coming... Now if you run CITRIX, you also gotta get a CITRIX Server License and CALs for that too.

Have fun... I really wonder how M$ can market this crap, and that no-one even questions it's practices this way.

New You sure about that?
Data I'm finding indicates that WTS CALs are bundled into Win2K & WinXP. Though I've yet to find a solid reference on that.

What part of "gestalt" don't you understand?

Keep software free.     Oppose the CBDTPA.     Kill S.2048 dead.

New Yep....
Pretty darn sure... especially when we are testing Citrix and RTE at the same time... yessh it is expensive. And we don't even have the I-Connectors yet... which cost even MORE.

Oh yeah, and about thise things being "included" in them... Well, the are for "administrative" tasks... for those lazy windows admin that do not want to go in the COLD Data Center to fix a problem from console...

Of course I never have to do that anymore... now that I use a networked encrypted KVM... with a "VNC-like" client... you know...

New OT it's NICE in there!
As hot as it's been here, I relish the opportunity to do something, anything, in the server room...it's nice in there :)

Steve
New They are not bundled
I recently set up a Win2K server which was going to go WTS and deliberately did not order the CALs (they were specified by the software supplier's list).

I also deliberately turned off the WTS services once the thing was installed to keep them from generating expiration messages (the client didn't expect to apply WTS for some months).

Fortunately, they decided not to go this route, Every once in a while a business person who's using WTS asks me if I know how to make it work right.

New AHH--HEMMMM
There is no such thing as a WTS server working right...

Something is just wrong with it. They(MS) banter about 200 concurrent connections all day long... I have YET to see any machine with enough available resources to even begin to support THAT many concurrent connections. Heck even with Windows 2K Data Center Server... it'd be tough to get it working that way. BTW W2K Data Center support 32-way and 32GB of Memory (some pages at MS say 64GB, but I digress) I would think it might be able to handle 200 Concurrent sessions.

Thier "light" client need 1.5Mb/sec to even come close to getting good response. Ick...

That is why we are also testing CITRIX. MetaFrameXP seems to have fixed(or worked around) most of the problems with WTS, it has extremely light clients... even ones that'll run on MSDOS 5 and Caldera DOS, with 14.4K modems, but DANG it's expensive.

New Yes, the only time . . .
. . I had to set up such a system, knowing WTS didn't work right, I decided not to touch it and farmed the job out to a long time Citrix partner.

As far as I know, it worked well enough, but the whole thing was dismantled less than a year later due to management changes and money problems.

The whole thing was so they could use a Windows accounting program when the accountant and accounting server were in a condo in Burbank and the people using the system were at two locations in Hawaii.

The company, [link|http://www.ceatech.com|Ceatech], is still in business, but is no longer my client since I do not have a Hawaii office.

New Well then... I would say it is...
High time for a Branch office... I'd be more than willing to ahhh.... *cough* head that Branch up for you... ;-)

Of course I'd assume, you'd have to make personal inspections a *VERY* regular occurence to make sure I wasn't screwing off...

Well... I guess it ain't tooo good of an idea... Where would I go to Vacation??? <shakehead type=no>New Jersey?</shakehead>

P.S. Now just Where am I going on the 6th of July?

New Hey, look . . .
New Jersey will be good for you - it'll make you appreciate the rest of the world.

Hey guys . . do they still have a dump under the Polaski Skyway with fires burning day and night for as far as the eye can see? I presume the EPA has made them stop, but that was one of the wonders of the world - the very picture of Hell on Earth - and what a stench that was.
