I visited Jon's Market in Gelendale CA a few days ago, to buy fresh horseradish roots. After they remodeled and moved the deli, they no longer had a barrel of salted herrings, which was disappointing to me - but now the herrings are back. They are now from Lithuania - the only difference is the Lithuanian ones are gutted, which doesn't bother me much.

So, I bought three herrings, because I desperately needed to do a better photo for my pickled herring recipe. This has been done, and the herrings are delicious, especially with some of the onions.
