the original village was closer to the coast in the high dunes.
State wanted to build a large runway that could take jets as a stopover on the way to nome and points north. The village relocated to the inside Bay atop 3 different bluffs connected by short roads and boardwalk. The planes stopped using the runway as longer range aircraft came around and without maintenance the runway was eroded into two parts as a nearby creek cave it in. When the pacific typhoons blow across the ocean from the south the village turns into 3 temporary Islands.
