New "Luckily, Trump Is an Unstable Non-Genius"
NYT. [Krugman]
A couple replies:

"Being There" (by Jerzy Kosinski) about the older and mentally challanged gardener that ends up giving advice to the president of USA and being a contender to be President. ... ...

And ... the durable:

From a structural point of view, if all that is saving us from going the way of Hungary and Poland is the President's mental deficiencies, Houston, we have a big problem.

Post-Trump, his white base will remain hungry for red meat-style tough talk. Non-charismatic candidates with moderate positions won't appeal to them. The party will have to come up with another flamethrower.
Then what?

It's not so much that Trump is the problem as it is Americans who, knowing full well that a Trump-like strongman will diminish our democracy, would vote for someone like Trump.

The problem is us.

AIn't it the truff..
New Amen!

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
