New Warren/Sanders 2020. That's the ticket that wins.
bcnu,
Mikem

It's mourning in America again.
New She killed Delaney last night, for sure.
This series of Internetz has had me chuckling off and on all morning:

  1. https://twitter.com/ErickFernandez/status/1156374966692171777?s=20 - Warren completely owning Delaney. The hands + eyes gesture she makes, and the cascade of expressions on his face...

  2. https://twitter.com/franklinleonard/status/1156430808346849280?s=20 - Look at her glee.

  3. Someone edited his Wikipedia page afterwards:

  4. And finally, you know you got owned when you have to make a press release about it the next day:

It's mourning in America again.
New But here's a troubling assertion..
further down the laurel leaves..

She has a good chance of winning the primaries and losing badly in the general. In 2012, she won MA by 8 when Obama won by 23. A lot of people outside of the twittersphere don't like her that much.

(Asserting that which would need some Believable demographcs, Verification writ-Large).
Unclear to moi, given the [see Alex's sig] general high-mopery of the under-informed--the uninformed are already DJT's.

ie the more cerebral+al punte your presentation, the more suspicious are many ... who just Hate anyone who can say sodiumethylmercurithiosalicylate ..without stuttering, y'know?

My local 'plebsicite': "Do you have any recollection of 'the Weimar Republic' of the '30s?"
(Here in ruralville, you can imagine the %yesses sans any stats. :-/
New I, too, share that concern.
I am convinced that if the next election is left up to American White people, we'll have the Despicable One for four more years. It's time we faced up to the fact that no Progressive (in the American sense; that is, non-flaming RWNJ) can be elected to the White House who doesn't carry an overwhelming number of votes from non-Whites and huge numbers of votes from the kiddies (of all colors). She might, MIGHT get the kiddies excited about college debt forgiveness and tuition-free community colleges/state universities, but I'm not sure she can get enough people of color inspired to vote. And make no mistake, without them no Democrat wins.

Aside: There are several things that astound me these days. First, being Anti-Fascist is akin to being Un-American. Second, there are otherwise serious people claiming "workers love the private health insurance they get from employers". Bullshit of the first degree. No one gives a damn who processes their medical claims as long as they get the healthcare they need. Finally, how is it that free community college and tuition-free state universities is controversial? I *had* that in 1977 FFS. IF I wanted a parking sticker and a library card so I could check out books, it cost $12.00 per semester. If I wanted neither of those things, all I paid for was books. There were no other fees. CSULB was tuition-free for CA residents as well. But, now we can't do that?

It's mourning in America again.
New re "workers insurance paid by employers"
The obvious contention is: Shall? the employers [be mandated to] raise the wages? by the amount *they* pay if/when Single Payer by-any-name attains Repo-proof/bullet-proof Law.
If this needs to be explained very carefully to said workers in order for them to see clearly Why it's a Good Deal, we need--on this topic--squadrons of explainers quite as much as any other Pol-type canvassing. I wot.

(If P.O.Color toss off the education perks, well then..)
Fact: We have NO (believable) stats even: as to %disaffected ones' actually voting. Must we hope for a 110-F for three days prior to election say? All logic portends ill where Language murder has no punishment, critical thinking is impossible for many: as IRAN + Bolton + Menace can exponentially impose their Horror-show ... any minute.

I see.. I See: that sign at the entrance to the trestle, The Cassandra Crossing.. JUST the situation wherein DJT/basically real-Friend-less and insecure on every level ... Demonstrates His Power (over all those who ever dissed the rudderless, soulless mo-fo).

He pretends to jocularly-dismiss Bolton's raison d'etre; moi believes Not So. It's mere camouflage).
Believe too that his Hate is insatiable; that + his Branded-wishy-washy 'decisions' mean: you never Can guess his next move. But you can be certain that he will lie ---> right-on-up to it.
Heh.. and we'unses thought Dr. Strangelove ... far-Out rollicking Humor (!)

New They will successfully be labeled socialists, if not communists, and we'll get four more years.
Democrats cannot elect a president without the independents. There are people who feel about Warren as other people felt about Hilary.

Also, if the black voters stay home again it will a a rerun of 2016. Neither Warren of Sanders are their first choice.

The primary process is so far generating fuel for tRump to use the electoral campaign. If you think free health care and collage education for the illegals will win votes with independents you will be sadly surprised.

The goal has to be to get rid of tRump and work to take the Senate. Only then some liberal goals can be attained.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New We will never have a Liberal government in this country.
It would require, at least, dramatic change in our demographics and that's exceedingly unlikely to ever happen. There are simply too many uninformed, xenophobic, racist and racist sympathizing White people in this country. To understand why this will never change, see the opening of the film "Idiocracy" (based upon the short story "The Marching Morons"), which, despite being a work of fiction accurately reflects what has been happening in (at least) the White community for entirely too long.

I used to think education was a key to altering this make up of our countrymen. I've long since abandoned that notion. There are simply too many of them who are ineducable. It's vastly easier for them to just continue to feign belief in an imaginary, magical, invisible friend who will allow them to exist forever if only they believe!

It's mourning in America again.
New Well it does raise an Existential question--
regarding the Futchah of

... if "a nation so dedicated feckless, so conceived inconceivable shall long endure".

(Por moi , it's not a viewable-factor) but to all the young'uns extant, I extend my condolence:

Y. P. B.
Refresher: You. Poor. Bastards.
New Education comes in many flavors.
What's missing is not education but the teaching of critical thinking as part of education.

New I sort of agree with that.
That a study of mathematics "teaches you to think critically" was always one of the reasons I encouraged young people to undertake the study (it was usually one of my first topics in those College Algebra classes I taught as a TA years ago).

But I've often wondered over the years, "Is is possible to teach anyone to think critically if they have no innate ability to do so?" I still can't convince myself such is possible.

It's mourning in America again.
New Mid- '70s: a boffin in Blighty had a PBS program just-so.
Many subsequent similar names since.. exact title is hors de combat.

But ~~ "The Thinking Class"; it featured a small audience, ages ~ pre-teens into er, elderly. Their ouevre was to postulate A Problem (say something awful re parking garages, for one) and aim for solutions. Of course the core of this was the moderator.

While the sterling results cannot be separated-from the Problem: "were these pupils sorta self-chosen?" via possession already of "critical thinking", I recall the overall impression that: it Could be taught (as we saw improvements in ongoing episodes) within this group. It was small enough that one could attach 'progress' to a face/name.

tl;dr 'Psychology' remains a wanna-be-Science, I wot.
