New Re: Should I recognize that image?
It’s the famous shot from Last Year at Marienbad (1961) in which the people seen in the distant vista cast shadows but the landscaping does not. It was filmed on an overcast day, and the shadows were painted onto the gravel promenade.

New Think of Marienbad as poetry
Last Year at Marienbad and To Kill a Mockingbird were released within a year of one another, and each film is highly regarded, and rightly so, today. They are nevertheless not designed to appeal to the same sensibilities. I recently attempted to convey to friends the difference between the two works, employing poetry as a metaphor. Link here.

The film is a fucking masterpiece. Its detractors despise it; its partisans adore it. I am prepared to make archival copies available on optical media for purposes of safekeeping upon application. Persons of breeding and discernment only, please.
