The rabid GOP Senators have already stated that they will immediately clear Trump of all charges. This would allow Trump to go into the next election with boasting rights to a clear victory - an invalid victory, but why would he care? This would be extremely bad for a Democrat candidate. The better strategy is to keep piling on and publicizing clear reasons for impeachment, and non-impeachable crimes and infractions as well. Should Trump win re-election, or look like he's about to win re-election, that's the time to hit him with impeachment.
