This infographic has several major problems. First, like many of the other infographics I‘ve analyzed, it doesn’t cite its sources. Second, while it provides a few statistics to suggest similarity between Chicago and Houston, it does so over-simplistically. Third, its math is not internally consistent. Fourth, it seems to massively overrepresent Chicago’s homicide rate (at least according to UCRS statistics on M&NNM) and slightly underrepresent Houston’s. Finally, the gun narrative would not seem to address why Houston’s property crime and aggravated assault rates are both higher than Chicago’s since at least 2009.
