That's not "inspired by a Soviet hatchback created in the 1970s"...
...it's just a nicely customised instance of that Soviet hatchback from the 1970s. Possibly with the drivetrain switched for an electric one; possibly not. Why "possibly not"? Just look at "Igorek", the "robot for engineering and combat tasks", further down the page -- straight out of the original RoboCop movie. (Also, commenters talk about "I like your tanks"? AFAIK, Kalashnikov makes assault rifles, not tanks.) My best guess is, the BBC got taken in by some Russian site's April Fools page. -- Christian R.
