New Israel suit re: Apple deliberately slowing-down older iPhones
Heard en passant on BBC radio..

Apple says ~"older Li-Ion batteries are a?/the? culprit" ... such voltage sensitivity as this--??--sounds pretty fishy.
A. claims that iOS changes attempt to "help" this vexing-ephemeral {something}

Anyone heard anything traceable on this?
New Been lots of discussion on /. lately
Latest iOS updates are slowing down older phones to - allegedly - mitigate unplanned shutdowns that are happening when older batteries provide insufficient voltage.

Two issues:

1) No other smartphone seems to be shutting down because of older batteries.
2) They didn't tell people they were slowing them down - or provide the user the option.
3) (I lied.) Boy, this sure would be less of an issue if batteries were user-replaceable, wouldn't it?
