New Anyone happy with a "mesh wifi" solution?
I'm itching to upgrade our home wifi hardware. I've got several TP-Link WiFi boxes set up as extensions from our router at one end of the house while we're usually at the other. We've got two office setups halfway in between. I know I don't have them setup properly (I'm using the same SSID for all the Wifi boxes), but I don't want to waste hours and risk breaking it even more than it is now on my days off...

I really should get off my butt and route CAT5 cable to the various first-floor rooms, but I'd have to rip out stapled in ceiling tiles in the basement and I don't want to do that (yet).

I've read about 5 sets of "reviews" of the popular "mesh" systems out these days, then go read the Amazon reviews and check the manufacturers forums and read about constant disconnects, broken firmware updates, and other issues. It's hard to know how much of it disinformation and how much of it is squeaky wheel stuff. :-/

Anyone here have any experiences to share?

The Netgear Orbi 50 is at the top of my list now. (The Pro version offers things I don't need for $200 more.)

Thanks.

[ Tyops, etc. ]

Cheers,
Scott.

New We have one
Apple base station with Express for the extensions. Love it, never goes down, strong signal, easy to set up, but you can't buy it any more (maybe used though). :-/

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Thanks. Just ordered the TP-Link Deco M5

I was almost ready to order the Orbi RBK50, but I keep seeing warnings that the latest firmware breaks things. Plus, I've got 3 wireless bridges plus my wifi router, so if I eventually need to add 2 additional Orbi mesh parts it would cost a small fortune. So, I'll pass.

I've had good luck with the TP-Link Archer C9 router so maybe this will be good enough for now as well. Hard to beat the price ($220 at the moment). I might have to run CAT5 between them eventually, but at least I'll have that option.

It is supposed to be here tomorrow, but it'll be a few days before I risk setting it up.

Wish me luck!

I'll report back when I have more information.

Cheers,
Scott.

No. Just no. Not a potential no, a solid diamond-hard no. Like, seriously Chuck Norris testicles-hard no.
