New NY's Daily News newspaper publisher bought for $1!
NY Times:
Tronc, the publisher of The Los Angeles Times and The Chicago Tribune, announced on Monday that it had acquired The Daily News, the nearly 100-year-old tabloid that for decades set the city’s agenda with its gossip, sports and city coverage.

And The Chicago Tribune reported on Monday that Tronc purchased The News for just $1, plus the assumption of liabilities.
The real cost is the assumption of liabilities.

In all my years in NYC (as a kid), I don't think I ever paid for an issue. If I read it, it was someone's discard.

New Newspapers continue to die.
Mort wanted $100M for it a couple of years ago...

It's not yet clear what, if anything, is going to replace major newspapers for authoritative news.

Kind of a scary time, especially given what Putin and the various "social media" outfits around the world have been doing.
