Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I have no idea what's going on in this thread
--

Drew
New Uh... My first post here, and Ashton's that I replied to, didn't clue you in on...
...the number of letters in each word forming a mnemonic?

"May" - three letters
"I" - one letter
"have" - four letters
"a" - one letter
"large" - five letters
"container" - nine letters
"of" - two letters
"coffee" - six letters

Three, one, four... 3.1415926(*).

Only it should be seven as the last one(*), so "whiskey" (or some other seven-letter word) in stead of "coffee".

---
(*): Because the next ones are ...53.., so it rounds up to 7.

(Yeah, yeah, it redirects to the same old GMail... But just in case I ever want to change.)
New Ah, was reading that on my phone, which didn't render the symbol
Though in all honesty, I wouldn't have figured it out anyway.

New Meta cavil.. and repeat-with-more-words
IF a math/reader is By-Definition all-about-Accuracy:

You --> are projecting a faux-presumption.. (Recall what "assume" [humor] parses to? [/humor])
Truncating preserves the intended purpose of the exercise: you WON'T see a "7" NEXT in that {{infinite)) progression
Sooo..

Don't put in a Rong-last digit.
Want more digits next? 5? a billion? a septillion? ... NO "rounding-UP"

Pecksniffery R-Us LLC
New Then quit at something that rounds down to itself...
...like "May I have a large container?" for 3.14159 or "May I have a large container of coffee, sugar and cream, scalding, estimated drinkin' immediate" for 3.14159265358979. Or something. (Yeah, that stilted and fudged ending bothers me too. But it's 2 AM here now, so somebody else can fix it.)

And no, botching it and claiming that's "OK because it's funny" is neither really OK nor particularly funny, IMO. Feels a little like many other inaccurate claims you come across on the 'Net where people go "But come on, what's wrong with you, it's a joke goddammit!" if you criticise it. Well, no: Those "jokes" are usually not funny, just wrong.

New No. Joke. Mr. Pecksniff II. I gave you LOGIC
and you're too E_-Centric even to See That.

I'm sticking to the logic; add more fluff if you Must. You're a Crank.. didja Know?
and I gotta get back to handicapping the bets on the Fall of the West-est Fucked-Country debacle.

P.S. This is Still: the bloody Oh Pun! Forum, you fractious-Finn (an'Haddie, was that The Fish?)
New You did? Sorry, if you did I must have missed it. Could you re-state it in ordinary English, please?
(Note: This is my third version of this comment; I left the previous two un-posted.)

New Fair enough..
Mighta known you'd want the LONG-form, wherever your opinion is not tacitly agreed-to, ;^>

0) I didn't contrive this quip, 'twas via an accidental notice in a linked er, Tweet, is it?

1) This was in the Humor slot.

2) Readers (here) are by-definition aware of "rounding"-as-in-Duh.

2a) WHETHER to "round-up/down" (as is so appropriate in most.. but not all) ordinary cases? OR
2b) Treat the code as expandable, a. ? ~~Paean to its random-infinite series? ... a matter which most 𝛑 users likely, rarely ponder. But I do.

Math is ALL ABOUT the PUNCTILIOUS, had you noticed? Recall when you forgot that ..and your paper did not have an 'A' on it?

In any event: it DOES call for a *Consideration=DECISION of the Author/not moi, as to which audience his opus was aimed-at.
Further, as anyone who has ever bit-twiddled digital math Knoze: there ARE cases where you do Not want to ROUND, depending on the LOGIC of that program-snip.
(Big/Little-Endians anyone? for sample-arcanery.)

* ..and is it not the POINT of those [n+] Math-based Puzzles: to force you to thimk/sic/ with precision somewhat-Beyond ... your mundane, rote Habits, Bunkie?

You want me to say that ... most times you Round. Likely true, that "opinion".
And I demur, because it is a --> MATHEMATICAL decision. It seems that the Author agrees with moi.

En fin: TO ROUND or NOT-TO-ROUND, in MATH: bloody-well-DEPENDS.

Carrion
Will be 'ere (most of) all week.
New I particularly liked the "en fin".
Since you, Ash, have previously demonstrated knowledge of the correct spelling of "Finn"(*), I'm choosing to interpret it as a (well-deserved) dig at the Grand Moff.

---
(*): Not that I am one. Again, _you_ probably knew that.

Hope that clears things up?

New Terribly sorry about that. I didn't even notice my mistake until it was remarked upon.
But the point stands. If you actually prefer the blended barf we have here over Glenfiddich, then you simply don't know how to drink properly.
bcnu,
Mikem

It's mourning in America again.
New Reading comprehension totally zero? I only "prefer" it for the extra letter.
One more than "coffee" or "whisky". (Because Pi rounds to 3.1415927, not 3.1415926.)
