I was tempted with the iPhone 4, but determined better uses for my $400+
I mean, step back eleven years to 2006. You could have never convinced me back then that anyone would ever pay $400.00 for a damned phone. Who would pay that kind of money for the privilege of having that kind of constant intrusion into their lives? But then, I seriously thought Facebook would have gone the way of MySpace by the end of that very year or, in the worst case, no later than 2008. There is, apparently, no limit to the typical Murican's narcissism. The cell phone is just an extension of that for a great many. The millennials around me would find a device that could hook up to the Internet and *only* run a Facebook app to be entirely sufficient. I'm kind of surprised the Fascist Megalomaniacal Zuckerberg isn't marketing those.

There has been a "Facebook phone" before.
It tanked. I don't think it would work now, either.

Not Facebook, just need WiFi and mobile data
If you gave teens a phone with WiFi and mobile data, but no actual voice plan, most of them wouldn't notice for days or weeks at a time. My 14-year-old got a call on a phone she'd had for at least 3 weeks and didn't recognize the ringtone as hers, or that it was an incoming call.

That's what you call an iPod! :)

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

That was me, up until last week
And then I put our house on the market*, and I've made and received more calls in a week than I did in the two months previously.
Seems that the real world (i.e. the part that involves money) still actually makes voice calls.
*We're moving to the coast. Target house is literally 5 minutes walk from the actual sea.
