Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Not the question you asked, but...
Digital Ocean and ilk are so cheap and convenient these days that I would never bother with a colocated server again.
Regards,
-scott
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Agreed
You really, really want to make the actual physical hardware be someone else's problem.
New Damn, know what I'm doing nights this week
Linode $20 package smokes my current hosting. Need to figure out how to transfer my mail.

Drew
New Look into Digital Ocean too.
This is a DO server. I moved from Linode and haven't regretted the change.
Regards,
-scott
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Just on price and specs Linode beats it
What's the advantage?
--

Drew
New That wasn't always the case.
DO has a lot of other services as well. It's worth a comparison.

I've not had any issues with DO going down either, but that was a problem for a while with Linode.

This node is $6/mo including backups.
Regards,
-scott
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Zooks!
New Do you get shell access?
Do you even need it with the dashboard they provide?
--

Drew
New I only use shell access.
So I can't comment on the dashboard.
Regards,
-scott
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Then yes, they have shell access :)

New IMAP to IMAP is how I last moved my email.
I moved my mail from a dedicated (but failing) server to an AWS EC2 instance a couple of years ago. Since I use an IMAP server, it was dead easy to make another connection from my client, then it was a moderately careful drag-and-drop. Walk away and come back in an hour or so.

(Don't use MS's Email clients - they don't like large IMAP mailboxes. I used Opera Mail which copes with mailboxes in the tens of thousands of messages - and likely way beyond.)

Wade.
New Been using their webmail interface
