The younger, the safer, for obv. reasons, but especially the fast motion ^UP-walls^ seems (per a vet or two) the maneuver most apt to seriously strain things: the older the kitty the more likely.
(ie. If one is not paying attention: the laser can be as nasty an event for a cat as ... TURTLE TOSSING for a turtle.)
