As an Emacs user I use the Escape key 50-100 times a day. Goddammit.

You can remap it.
It's just Shift-Command-Alt-F1-Backspace. Easy, peasy. Or not. ;-) Seriously, it's surprising. Cheers, Scott. (Who wonders why PCs still have SysReq keys...) |

It's all a simple matter of retraining...

It is in the same row of keys as the functions keys and I don't use those.
And those keys are half the height of the character keys. But, I do use the Esc key to leave full screen mode for videos. Also, the power on/off is the right most key in that row of keys on my MB Pro. Alex "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. I can deal with occasional use being touch, like leaving full screen
But a touch pad for a key that I use all the time as part of speed typing is going to be quite disruptive. Regards, -scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson. |

Touchbar? Ugh...
HP had those on the 65xx/67xx series (~2007). It contained toggles for WiFi, screen and volume controls, ... Dust and dirt really stood out on it, inviting users to just swipe across and clean it. Inevitably followed by screams of anguish and despair as the thing went apeshit for minutes before becoming halfway usable again :-/ |

Bleargh.

The trick is to do it with something that won't register as a touch.
On modern touch-screens, sleeves are often good for this. Wade. Just Add Story http://justaddstory.wordpress.com/ |

I've got some gloves that are useless for my Nexus 4 phone... :-(

Wow.
I hope the Apple engineers made an extra-special point of not repeating the grounding mistakes HP did! Wade. Just Add Story http://justaddstory.wordpress.com/ |

I remember a story about OS/2 and touching a certain part of the laptop ...

Are they heading back to the original Mac's keyboard?
It not only had no Escape key but it had no arrow keys, either! Wade. Just Add Story http://justaddstory.wordpress.com/ |

I don't think the arrows will leave
On the laptops they subsumed the home/end/pageUp/pageDn into the arrow keys though. Regards, -scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson. |

Heh
I suppose this is more "courage", yes? |

Could deal with a little more Cowardly Lion tbh

More courage if they took our the letter E! :)
That would be committing hara-kiri. Alex "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been.
