Our county does jury duty the sensible way: you show up for 1 day, if you don't get called, no big deal, see you next time.
US District Court is a whole different beast. I'm on call for 2 weeks, and if I get picked for a trial that ends before that 2 weeks is up, back into the pool I go. For added fun, jury selection happens in one city, the trials are held in a different city an hour and a half away.
No cell phones or laptops. What a complete pain in the ass.
