New I remember well Brood II (2) in Upstate NY in 1979.
Crunching their red eyed bodies as they littered the roads and putting up with the insistent and incessant cacophony of their mating calls.

And I'm not looking forward to Brood VI (6) to hit the Carolinas and Georgia next year.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New There were billions in Cincinnati in 1987.

It was amazing. One couldn't walk down the sidewalk without stepping on them. I remember being at a Wendy's drive through and one tried to fly into my mouth as I was ordering. They were everywhere. It sounds like your experience was similar.

The emergences I've seen since then have been a huge bust. We'll see.

Cheers,
Scott.
