New behaving to the stereotype

Osoyoos police say they are "dumbfounded" by the behaviour of hockey parents involved in a drunken brawl at a youth tournament Saturday.

RCMP received a report April 2 about a large fight involving "numerous parents" in the stands at the Sun Bowl Arena, the Osoyoos detachment said in a release.

The brawl involved parents of 10-year-old players from Langley's New Western Bruins and the B.C. Interior Stars, made up of players outside of Osoyoos. The violence erupted just as the game ended around 8 p.m.

Police said accusations from both sides suggested the parents had been hurling insults at each other before the melee.

An investigation revealed they were all staying at a local resort and had been drinking alcohol throughout the day, to such a quantity that the resort had to call in extra security.

"Alcohol is believed to have played a large factor in the very poor choices made by these parents," the release said.

One woman's nose was broken and other minor injuries were reported.
