New In 1815, short-term climate change caused by Tambora led to Frankenstein
Regards,

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New In this connection, see also...
Ken Russell's 1986 flick Gothic, which purports to tell the story of that fateful evening. Gothic falls under the "so bad it's good" heading, an artistic form for which the late director had a particular gift, and contrives to make the episode peculiarly reminiscent, at least to this viewer's doddering sensibilities, of certain undergraduate ergot alkaloid-fueled all-nighters circa 1970. Joe Bob says check it out, but fortify yourself with something from Schedule 1 beforehand.

We now return the forum from this cultural digression to its designated subject.

cordially,
New Neat.
I'd previously heard that Mary Shelley was pregnant while writing Frankenstein and that it was about the horrors of childbirth, but that version of the creation mentions almost nothing about the weather.

When I was growing up, the monster volcano story was Krakatoa, but Tambora was much bigger. Krakatoa got all the press because it was more recent.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.
