Central mainly, with a side helping of obstructive. Neither CPAP nor BiPAP made any improvements as I would simply not inhale. I did not have any issues with humidity.

There are alternative masks (similar in design to this one: http://www.cpap.com/productpage/tap-pap-nasal-pillow-cpap-mask.html -- not an endorsement, necessarily) that may help with comfort.

Back when I had my testing all was accomplished within the sterile halls of an overnight testing facility, both the initial YER GUNNA DIE diagnosis and then, on an additional evening, the "calibration" of a mask and machine. The latter was accomplished by a pair of surly medical workers who were more concerned with getting me calibrated so they could leave for home early than they were with the actual quality of calibration.

Long story short, the prosthesis didn't take and I decided paying $750/mo outside of insurance for no tangible benefit wasn't worth the price of entry.
