Wasted another couple of hours with Windows networking...
Setup:
1) Win7Pro server with 2 NICs. One for internet access, one for private network.
2) Win2k+SP4 PCs on private network.
Problems:
a) 2nd NIC not active ("unidentified") in Winders because no gateway is specified and marked as a Home network. How to fix? Here.
b) Can MapNetworkDrive from Win7 to Win2k machines just fine, but not the other way. "The mapped network drive could not be created because of the following error has occurred:
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation" How to fix? It really is this simple.
I'd tried all kinds of mucking around, thought about messing with the Registry, etc., etc. Simply restarting the "Service" service at the server and client did the trick.
I hate Winders...
