New Of a strangeness
My masters had me digitize a 12 year-old VHS training video for DVD output. The file was 6.3GB. Every time, on three computers, that I attempted to copy this to a thumb drive (more than one) with more than enough free space, I was informed that the file was too big to transfer. I subsequently moved it without incident to a portable HD.

Wonder what was going on?

cordially,
New Thumb drive file system
Unless you formatted them on the Mac using HPFS, they were likely FAT32 formatted (ye olde MS-DOS format adapted for 2GB+ drives.) FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit.
New Yup. Similar issue bit me with a 10 GB VirtualBox VM.
New "FAT32"
Clue's in the title.
New They just need to make the bytes bigger then everything would be fine... ;-)
New Thanks, all
That appears to have been the issue.

gratefully,
