I'm actually kind of surprised about the president authorizing strikes to protect the Yazidi — they are basically irrelevant outside of Iraq, and don't even have any sort of influence in Iraq. Their only relevance is that many Iraqis view them as paragons of innocence and pacifism. Attacking them is like kicking Iraq's national puppy.
