New Active thread escalation (float?)
Not sure what a good term for this is.

At EZBoard, threads in a forum would float to top if they were currently active. I found this to be one fo the things I liked about the site -- it allowed people to go back to old material and make it current, it also allowed stinker topics to drop, literally, in the standings.

Any chance of getting same here?

What part of "gestalt" don't you understand?
New I thought it did already.
I know Scott got messages to list in the same order as the thread tree, but within the tree, later messages were lower. OTOH, topics as a whole are sorted newest first, aren't they?

Wade.

New He means threads in a forum, not messages in a thread.
New Yes
The in-thread activity is highly annoying and utterly borks ability to follow a discussion. I've always hated that.

The in-forum activity highlights areas of current activity. It's mildly noxious where old, long, threads are dredged up, some sort of contextual trimming might be useful in this case, but that can be handled seperately. I don't like having to hunt downpage for current, but buried, threads, under a bunch of static material (no, not you, Wade).
