New Two possibilities/question
First, Monitors still basically work on the principal of a single source of photons so correction may be imperfect at the edges.

Second (and this is where the question comes in), while the outer surface of the screen may be flat, is the interior surface as flat?

New Too lazy to hunt physiological data but,
My own experiment with the ruler along a flat line onscreen - confirms that the eye-brain still thinks it's sl. pincushion distorted. But it isn't! Whatever - the effect is small even this soon.

I believe.. this phenom is lessening; have to notice for some days. If you've ever done the experiment of wearing L/R reversing prisms for a few hours (?) you'll see that the eye/brain makes lots of 'assumptions' based on learning what to expect! We expect.. that normal barrel distortion view, and for most of us: that experience has been from day 1.

So.. brain has said - OK OK - this is "flat", if you say so, sucker. Just as we learn to cope with a reversed image! sorta.. in a few hours.

That's my theory,

Ashton

PS - one can also deliberately inset some barrel distortion, maybe by degrees lessen that as the eye adapts (?) Not gonna bother - it's a Scientific Experiment\ufffd, good for at least a Masters, by present standards..
     So... how's *your* monitor, hmmm ?? - (Ashton) - (23)
