Too lazy to hunt physiological data but,
My own experiment with the ruler along a flat line onscreen - confirms that the eye-brain still thinks it's sl. pincushion distorted. But it isn't! Whatever - the effect is small even this soon.
I believe.. this phenom is lessening; have to notice for some days. If you've ever done the experiment of wearing L/R reversing prisms for a few hours (?) you'll see that the eye/brain makes lots of 'assumptions' based on learning what to expect! We expect.. that normal barrel distortion view, and for most of us: that experience has been from day 1.
So.. brain has said - OK OK - this is "flat", if you say so, sucker. Just as we learn to cope with a reversed image! sorta.. in a few hours.
That's my theory,
Ashton
PS - one can also deliberately inset some barrel distortion, maybe by degrees lessen that as the eye adapts (?) Not gonna bother - it's a Scientific Experiment\ufffd, good for at least a Masters, by present standards..
