it's hype to make you read the article.
All in one tools make compromises and do nothing well.
You want a combination hammer, screwdriver, and monkey wrench with your fries? Alex

|
it's CNet. I'm not sure why you're surprised.
|
|
It's balls, isn't it?
A Surface Pro could replace my work laptop.
An iPad can't. Irrespective of the technical merits of the products concerned, this at least shows they are not equivalent. I'm mildly surprised that CNet still exists, tbh. There are better sources for tech news. |
|
The inertia is huge.
While I know, intellectually, that C-Net is pretty much crap nowadays, it still lingers in brain-stem memory as one of the foremost tech news places on the net. Benefits of being among the first tech news sites back when the Web was new (to me); perhaps even going back as far as the late eighties, to dead-tree _PC Magazine_ of yore.
Not to worry, though: Soon there won't be too many of us dinosaurs who remember when John C. Dvorak was actually good. --

Wait, what?
...when John C. Dvorak was actually good [citation motherfucking needed] |
|
You know...
Back when he had his Mongo Gateway Computers and those awesome Matrox VESA-LB Video cards!

PeeWee doesn't remember that; he was in shorts then.

Yeah JCD actually...
*DID* real research, rather than opine on everything and expect everyone to believe him because he *USED* to do research... 20 some years ago.

Isn't that their point?
They're saying the surface can replace a tablet and a laptop. You're agreeing it can replace your laptop but an iPad can't.

What's the big deal?
iPads have had a Bluetooth connected Apple keyboard available from day 1. My wife got one after initially thinking the virtual keyboard would be a pain. Guess what? She's much more a consumer and not creator of data and never uses that keyboard.

Naah, it's the opposite.
Seems what Peter is saying is something like, "Apple might have had some vision of how iPads would be enough, but MS actually 'delivers the goods' to make it work in practice" -- the exact opposite of what the C-Net headline says.

Ding!
You may now have a biscuit.

So gimme one!
Just had lunch; a biscuit would go very nicely with my coffee.
