It's abridged, but does not in my judgment suffer greatly from it (the omission of the catalogue of ships, for example, is not a deal breaker). Derek Jacobi's reading of the Fagels translation is a compelling reminder that this material comes to us from the oral tradition, and is testimony as well as to the reason Homer's story has endured unto the present day.
