It sounds like a smart idea to me - why have yet another box with a screen if you can simply attach an intelligent lens to your smartphone (or use it remotely). It's a young product though, so has the expected limitations.
It'll be interesting to see if Canon and Nikon think there's a market here.
Of course, the screen is a small cost of a camera (it's mostly the sensor and the lenses that drive up the costs). But one can certainly put a much brighter lens and a much bigger sensor in something like this than in a normal smartphone.
Anyway, innovation is good.
