New Standalone shower enclosure
As part of the house redo I want to install a shower enclosure on the 1st floor. This will enable me to make the 2nd and 3rd floors fully isolated, and at that point I can walk down the hall from my bedroom without getting dressed. Damn, I miss my "master" bedroom suite from all previous houses.

I already have a small bathroom in the "3rd" room downstairs, so I have pipes right next to where it is going to go. I will hire a contractor/plumber to do it, no way I'm screwing with this type of work, now that I'll have a bit of money coming in.

Web queries basically shows everyone hates every shower enclosure that they bought, at least in the $300-$400 range. I don't mind spending more, I'd just like a pointer to a decent one rather than guess. Anybody want to show me which ones to consider? Keep it under $1,000 (general goal, but not set in stone).

Also, any estimate of what the contractor will cost for the job?

Thanks.
New Forget the enclosure
For that budget I'm sure you could have a space framed in, sheetrock, and tile.

Bring your tools.
New We have an all-glass "European" enclosure.
I don't remember how much it was, though. Two walls are tile, the other two glass. It might have been more than $1,000.

New Been thinking off and on about a Dreamline door.

We have a cheap 24" shower door that needs to be replaced. I've been eyeing one from Dreamline for a while (Amazon carries them for ~ $425), but we haven't taken the leap. They have full enclosures as well.

HTH a little. Good luck.

Cheers,
Scott.
