In a show of appreciation, Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz and president John McDonough took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe on Friday to thank the city for its hospitality and well-behaved fans during the historic series.

Channeling everyone from the Bruins organization to the fans, to the entire city, the ad began with the words, “Thank You” in red letters.

“Rarely have we experienced the hospitality you afforded us throughout the playoff series between two incredibly gifted teams,” the ad said. “From Boston’s political leadership to every member of the Bruins organization; from the players to the people on the streets, you demonstrated respect, good sportsmanship, and a genuine love for the great game of hockey.”

The ad also touched upon “Boston’s strength” following the marathon attacks: “Please know we tip our hat to your city’s heart and gracious spirit. You lead by example and have set the bar very high for others to follow.”

The cost of the ad was not disclosed. This is the first time the duo has placed an ad in a rival city following a big win.
