Anyone out there using this?

It looks interesting.
I've got a couple of Garmin GPS units of a couple of different vintages. Rather than buying updated maps for one of them, and putting up with the quirks of both of them, or buying a new one, I've been looking at alternatives before our Yellowstone vacation and a trip to Canada later in the year.
In doing some browsing around about the Nexus 4, and looking into ways of using it without a cell plan (yes, you can do so), I saw that someone was using Sygic for GPS maps. Maps seems to be reasonably priced (NA for $38, US only for $30) with free updates; US traffic is $15 a year.
$300-$350 for a flexible Nexus 4 vs $170+ for a roughly comparable but single-purpose Garmin. Or $200-300 for a Nexus 7 might be a better choice. (Both are listed as compatible if you check carefully. The Nexus 10 isn't listed as compatible.) One can use the Nexus 7 as a phone, with limitations - http://www.androidpo...us-7-as-my-phone/ GrooVe IP looks like a good app to investigate for voice calls over IP, but lots of people have trouble with call quality using it - http://snrblabs.com/...GrooveIP/FAQ.aspx
Has anyone tried Sygic for off-line maps and traffic? Worth the bother of not using your cell connection for on-line maps?
(On can use Google Maps offline, but you don't get directions and navigation - http://support.googl...2649131&ctx=topic )
Thanks.
Cheers,
Scott.
