If not, then realize this, they are a coveted piece that many people/organizations are trying to target for you personal data. Many people have all their Facebook/Google+/Other contacts in there, with phone numbers, real e-mail, even physical addresses. Also, you might have a credit card or two involved with Google Play or other "for pay" applications (pandora, nytimes, wall street journal, etc) The new target of today is not the newest latest website... though they still matter, but the Phone in the hands of dumb people that don't care what the warning says... they just want what they want. Allowing a "random" company to have access to control your phone for you... is not something that is small potatoes. Its the MAIN COURSE. If things are not done properly and transparently and securely... well, you just might as well give all your credit and money to me, since I can use it, rather than some 3rd uninterested party. Unless your PC is communicating with the phone directly -- via bluetooth, maybe? -- everything you do is routed through their servers. 2 Effective diseases don't kill in five minutes. They wait until you've had time to spread them for a week or so first. Same with effective crimes. You don't know you've been ripped off until way later, so you don't associate it with the cause. -- Drew

Post #372,288 by folkert 3/7/13 10:34:32 PM Reply	Yes... but Its say the DHCP address your router gives it... for example: 192.168.1.155:8888 OR http://web.airdroid.com which tells the browser to look for the device locally using (I think) Javascript to broadcast for it... I didn't see any traffic go out once the "web.airdroid.com" address was rendered, everything was aimed at the local network only. I was sniffing using TCPDUMP never saw an external call out past local net, once the page was done rendering. But then, I'm the guy who, every time I install an app, I look at the permissions. "Why does a game need to access my phone settings? Nope, no install." -- Drew

I understand that if you want to be able to do anything on your phone from another computer, you need (almost?) full access. But why don't they come out and say "we don't see any of your private data"? Cheers, Scott.

Files Management, Text Messages, running the browser, controlling settings... among other things. They just haven't done it... but they COULD if they wanted to. Just like President Obama COULD us drones against US Citizens engaged in combat or terrorist acts towards the US Gov't. Does that mean that Obama will? Perhaps, but only under emergency situations. So yes, its a great application, it does what it says it does, although without any real docs telling us how it does it. And their web site and user guide don't really say how it works or why they're so unclear about the security settings, etc. And it's free with no obvious indication of how they plan to make money. That means the users aren't the customers, they're the product. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get a newer Android device, but ... Thanks for the pointers and the information.
