Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Not quite for me
Through no fault of my own, though.

My desktop is 6 years old and my laptop is 7. Neither will run Mountain Lion, although the desktop will at least run Lion (32 vs. 64-bit Intel is the problem). Because of this I finally need to replace the laptop even though it's perfectly serviceable in all other ways.

I'd put Linux on it but the whole issue is that I need an updated XCode for iOS6 dev.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New As expected
You have to have the bleeding edge for development.
But what YOU develop, does it require high end desktops to run?
New Except that I don't need bleeding edge any more.
This is just an anomaly caused by the switch from 32 to all 64 bit in the hardware.

If not for that, both machines are more than capable. Well, the laptop is limited to 2G of RAM so that's a bit of a bummer, but other than that they're fine.
