Post #366,875 by scoenye 11/28/12 8:03:52 AM Reply	Dumped pulseaudio a long time ago Way too many problems. I can't recall exactly what the final straw was, but the main reason was that I could not get Wavecleaner, Rezound and Audacity happy at the same time as long as Pulseaudio was around.

Post #366,977 by scoenye 11/29/12 7:15:07 PM Reply	Not that I know of OSS is deprecated and was supplanted by ALSA. ALSA itself is still going but it works closer to the hardware than PulseAudio. The alternative to PulseAudio would be Jack. At the moment, I do use ALSA only without a higher level sound server. For home use, it works fine.

Post #367,071 by jake123 12/1/12 4:58:47 PM Reply	I can say that jackd is great, but needs moar dev. I use it for recording via ardour, which is also great. pulseaudio is kind of a pain. I was having some problems with it but mananged to work around them by doing some explicit assigning of devices for clients (read games). jackd is really good because it can use many backends, including but not limited to alsa. I mostly use it with the ffado backend to connect my focusrite saffire firewire device to record with.
