New Ummm...
This *WAS* when new a $105,000 machine.

128GB of memory ECC, Buffered memory, 8 processors (dual core), gobs of disk (at the time) all done with HardWare RAID, 4 power supplies, 7 NICs, formerly a processing node for an Oil Research company it had 2 - Quadra 5500 Video Cards (I think that was the model) in it for GPU processing.

These are enterprise drives that failed. The better NEW replacements are again inexpensive and for additional $3, the factory warrants them for 5 years vs the 2 years most drives come with now.

New I didn't make my point at all well.
I was actually referring to dedicated RAID hardware like what EMC have been making for decades.

But then, I haven't worked with high-end hardware like that, only seen it and used systems that sit on top of it.
