New Obscure part identification
I have this electronics part that we found in a sealed envelope marked DO NOT LOSE. Its probably been there for at least a decade. I'm just kinda curious what it might be.

Its a .5x.25x.125x (HWD) metal component with two leads. It has 16.0000 and what is probably a serial number 43160 stamped on one side and ICM 480 on the other.

My guess is a 16MHz clock crystal for what was apparently a 'very important' computer back when we were using the original IBM AT.

I think we can safely assume its not that important anymore.

You are probably right.

ICM = International Crystal Manufacturing Co.

The crystal case edges parallel to the leads are often rounded.

Tasteful, translucent, understated...it was the most charming, pleasant system crash I've ever experienced.
