New Re: The Weight of a Nation: tonight on HBO
I am also on the antenna, so I don't get HBO. However, there's a good Youtube video from 2009 explaining why this is such an insidious problem. (90 minutes)

I have been following this off and on since the book "Sugar Blues" came out in the middle 80's (25+ years!). It's one of America's worst problems (IMO) and there's no real solution in sight.

In your post, you recommend taxing them, but look what happens:

"...Since there wasn't much else going on that would have seriously affected them, that means they spent $34 million just to defeat the sugar tax."

There's also a very recent interview with Kelly Brownell on NPR's Fresh Air: (30 min)

Anyhow, thanks for the post!

New taxing the wrong end of the pipeline
instead of adding a tax to cornsweetened drinks, lets end the subsidies to both sugar and corn. At least modify the fuel subsidies for corn and eliminate any subsidies that go to corn sugar. Still support/create any needed subsidies for feed and food
