New Google's HUD glasses
http://bits.blogs.ny...ses-by-years-end/

Interesting.

I remember IBM's ads for something similar many years ago - a PC with a mini display that hung off some glasses. It could be a boon for many types of work (company reps checking inventory, etc., in stores; delivery people; etc.). One could imagine football players using such things in the future as well, if the rules allowed it.

The UI has to be thought about carefully though. How would you tell it what you want to do? Voice? And be telling the world about your business, while being susceptible to background noise? Hand gestures? A mini tethered keyboard? And what about use in cars? If done right, it could enhance safety and attention. If done poorly, it could be deadly... :-(

The Borg is coming... ;-)

Cheers,
Scott.
New When wearing them, can I say, "I am Locutus of Borg"?

Just as long as you don't dress like "Seven of Nine".

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

New Neat
Can't wait to see people walking around "scrolling" and "clicking" their HUD.

New Re: Neat
It's only a matter of time before a fatal traffic incident occurs, involving a wearer.
New It won't even have to involve...
a vehicle.

A person will ignore all warning signs of something and kill themselves or injure themselves to a bad degree.

These things could be: open manhole covers, trenches dug by utility companies, Cliffs of Dover... anything.
New Ar, without doubt.
New More likely to be other pedestrians.
I'm sure the number of people engrossed in their phone whilst walking down a very busy pedestrian throroughfare during peak hour is increasing. I've begun letting such people walk into me so I can tell them to "put the phone away and watch where you're going." It's entertaining that ones who get the most embarrassed are the ones who get most focussed on their device.
