Okay, I'm going to be moving switches and hubs around late tonight so I get in about Noon.
First thing, Alaska has a VIRUS!!! A WORM!!! It managed to get through my email anti-virus scanner AGAIN! Alaska is having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!!!
#1. The "virus" is not recognized by McAfee. /me raises eyebrows
#2. We've had this problem ONCE before when McAfee did NOT update their stupid .dat files in a timely manner. Now I manually check them (so much for computer automation).
#3. We run GroupWise. There aren't many viruses that can propogate through GroupWise and we're a minority so the odds that we'd be hit with one are even lower.
So, after quite a bit of digging, I find the following facts.
#1. The email was sent to ONE user who them MANUALLY sent it to other people in the office. So "worm" is NOT an accurate descriptor.
#2. The "virus" is an executable that generates a Dr. Watson error.
#3. This executable seems to be running from the c:\\temp directory.
#4. No one in Alaska will send me a copy of the ORIGINAL email and/or "virus" so I can investigate further.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm...............
So, their president and my boss and their tech all received an email from me pretty much identical to this.
*sigh*
