One of the coolest things I've seen in a while. All of the visual effects creators for space movies are now on notice that they need to up their game. The reality is significantly more complex and awe-inspiring.

Astronauts have the best fucking job in the world.
What's the red ribbon at 3:47? Great Wall? --

Looks like it to me.
I thought it was the Great Wall as well.
It's amazing how difficult it is to actually identify the area they're over from a few hundred miles up. Regards,

I don't think it's the Wall.
The one at 3:47 and at 4:37 look to be too continuous and too evenly lit to me.
My guess is they're rivers. http://www.nasa.gov/...e/great_wall.html Here's a Great Wall collage from ISS 11 - https://earthkam.ucs...tWall_ChinaLG.jpg From here: https://earthkam.ucs...ated_images?m=all Cheers, Scott. |

Neat.
Google Earth linky - http://eol.jsc.nasa....to=ISS029-E-34315
GE puts you in the middle of the Atlantic ocean when you click on that inside GE, but if you click on the location on the tree on the left it gives more details. I think the orange line is centered in this view: 25°14'55.88" N 70°49'38.51" E In Google Maps its - http://maps.google.c...8&t=h&z=6&vpsrc=0 If you zoom in, it seems to me there's no obvious reason for it to be so visible from the ISS. Presumably they have lots and lots of sodium-vapor lamps along the border. What do you know... http://mha.nic.in/pdfs/Fencing.pdf (5 page .pdf) A neat puzzle! Cheers, Scott. |
