Gingrich puts forth new Contract with America
Republican Newt Gingrich, who has positioned himself as the idea guy in this presidential campaign, will today call for Americans to have new choices in how they buy health insurance, pay their income taxes and save for retirement.
It's fairly long, so I'm still picking through it. So far though, the contract would make for good political humor, except some people will take it seriously.
Here is a bit from the actual contract.
3. Unleash AmericaÂs full energy production potential in oil, natural gas, coal, biofuels, wind, nuclear oil shale and more, creating jobs, stimulating a sustainable manufacturing boom, lowering gasoline and other energy prices, increasing government revenues, strengthening the dollar, and bolstering national security.
Typical of what I have seen so far, it includes words about green energy in the header. The details however are entirely about cutting restrictions on big energy companies so that oil, natural gas, coal and oil shale development can go into high gear.
His tax proposal are particular nuts. He outright suggests cutting capital gain and dividend taxes to 0%, essentially a reverse Buffet rule where the rich would pay less taxes the wealthier they are.
