New Bleah... iMac == DEAD
Well after a year of running it since we had a power surge caused by shorting feed wires on the pole, putting 240 on both legs and another regular power surge in the First week of July and yet another one Yesterday with all this A/C load on the grid.

The iMac power supply took out the motherboard and video card. HD is still good, peripherals all still good.

Ironically bought a new Epson 4-in-1 printer... Workforce 840. Listed for $300, Staples had it for $169.99, we got a $50 "old printer" recycle credit for the RX680 all-in-one... *AND* we had a 25% off coupon. Ended up paying $107.

So, I gets to get a new iMAC, possibly. That is if "Depot" repair doesn't work or isn't cost effective. And of course new power strips all around.
New Bleah is right. Good luck on the repair/replacement!

New Peripherally.. re 240 on the 120 leg
I thought that most PSs du jour were already 20/240+ auto-sensing--on 'Quality' gadgetry !?
In any event, why ISN'T iMac's one of these?

Duhh, Jobs et al: how much more could it cost, to protect all that expensive stuff attached?
..a few higher-rated triacs and volt-ref cha cha cha.
New Did your UPS fry also?

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

New Didn't have one in the Front room
Deemed not needed.

It still isn't.

Depot Repair is back tomorrow. They changed me $220. Replaced the PSU and everything else tested fine.

Guess I get to keep it.
New It's nice when the expensive bits aren't the fuse. Congrats
New Yep.
Less than my Deductible.

Guess its better than having to spend $500. But I was *SO drooling over the 3.4GHz i7 27.5"...

Coulda got that... MAN!!!! but no, this 2.8GHz Core2Duo 24" is plenty fast yet and plenty big enough.

Wife still likes it.
New are you going to update to Lion

New Not if I can help it.
Snow Leopard is the next thing for this iMac.

I've had it for ages but have been slow in putting it on. Bought a Family 5-pack.
